Defensive line

  • Name: Josh Williams

    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 6-2, 220
    • First-team credentials: Williams was effective against the pass and the run, often taking on two blockers. He had 57 tackles and four sacks.

    • School: Pine Bush
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 6-3, 205
    • First-team credentials: A transfer, Jackson was the standout on Pine Bush’s defense, making 94 tackles with 10 sacks. Albany, Rutgers, Temple and Army are interested in Jackson.

    • School: Minisink Valley
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 6-4, 240
    • First-team credentials: Juncaj followed his breakout junior season with another dominant year. Depsite being double and triple teamed, he still had 85 tackles and 11 sacks.

  • Name: Teige Napoli
    • School: Marlboro
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 5-11, 185
    • First-team credentials: Few teams dared to run on Napoli’s side of the line. He still put up 70 tackles with 5.5 sacks. Napoli also had two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

  • Name: Kenny Verney
    • School: New Paltz
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 5-11, 220
    • First-team credentials: A repeat first-teamer, Verney had another dominant year, posting 94 tackles with two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and three sacks. New Paltz coach Tom Tegeler called Verney “the best player I have ever coached.”

  • Name: Tyler Toledo
    • School: Monroe-Woodbury
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 6-0, 185
    • First-team credentials: A three-years starter, Toledo had 103 tackles, including 12 for a loss. He was also a first-team selection last year.

  • Name: Steve Gazzillo
    • School: Cornwall
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 5-11, 170
    • First-team credentials: Has led Cornwall in tackles in each of the last three seasons. Gazzillo put up 121 stops this year and scored the game-winning touchdown, a 1-yard run, in the Class A state championship.

  • Name: Terry Anderson
    • School: Newburgh
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 5-9, 180
    • First-team credentials: Anderson was a playmaker on both sides of the ball. He had 25 tackles, three interceptions and two defensive scores. He also rushed for 784 yards and nine touchdowns.

    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 6-2, 205
    • First-team credentials: Had six interceptions, four pass deflections and two defensive touchdowns for the Class B champions.

  • Name: Alex Suarez
    • School: Cornwall
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 5-11, 153
    • First-team credentials: The two-way standout covered opponents’ best wide receiver every game and shut them down. He had 38 tackles, nine pass deflections and two interceptions.

    • School: Cornwall
    • Year: Junior
    • Height/weight: 6-0, 170
    • First-team credentials: One of Section 9’s breakout stars this year, Schrag had 47 tackles with four interceptions. He also caught 26 passes for 528 yards with six touchdowns.

  • Name: Chris DiMedio
    • School: Cornwall
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 6-0, 172
    • First-team credentials: DiMedio converted 5-of-7 field goals this year and his punting skills helped Cornwall dominate field position.

  • Name: Shane O’Dea
    • School: Cornwall
    • Year: Senior
    • Height/weight: 6-2,185
    • First-team credentials: The linebacker had 95 tackles and 3.5 sacks. O’Dea also made a play that may never be forgotten in Cornwall, blocking an extra point in a 21-20 win over Burnt Hills in the Class A state semifinals.

  • DL: Jr. Dylan Teneyck, Marlboro: Two year-starter had 57 tackles with three sacks.
  • DL: Sr. Jordan Weaver, Goshen: Weaver made plays on both sides of the ball, but exceled on defense. He had 60 tackles, 11 sacks and 17 tackles for a loss for the Gladiators.
  • DL: Sr. Blaise Driscoll, New Paltz: High-energy player had 54 tackles with seven sacks for the Class A runner-ups.
  • DL: Sr. Jonas Ebner, O’Neill: Had a monster year with 104 tackles and 11 sacks for the Class B runner-ups.
  • LB: Sr. Myles Barrington, Marlboro: Barrington had 120 tackles and 215 over the last two seasons.
  • LB: Sr. Will Van Poppel, O’Neill: A fierce run stopper, Van Poppel made 103 tackles this season.
  • LB: Sr. Ryan O’Dea, Cornwall: O’Dea was Cornwall’s best tackler in space and was also strong in coverage. He had 77 tackles with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
  • DB: Jr. Gio Frisenda, Marlboro: Was active on defense, making 44 tackles with three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a touchdown.
  • DB: Jr. Chris Washington, Middletown: The ball hawk made 40 tackles and had five interceptions, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
  • DB: Jr. Ryan Hendricks, Washingtonville: A three-year starter, Hendricks had 14 tackles with four sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery. He also caught 34 passes for 682 yards with nine touchdowns.
  • DB: Sr. James Matautia, O’Neill: Rushed for 928 yards with 11 touchdowns, but was also lethal on defense, registering 42 hard hits.
  • K/P: Sr. Mike Boyle, Monroe-Woodbury: Converted 4-of-5 field goals with a long of 42 yards and had 21 touchbacks.
  • Ath: Jr. Christian Diorio, Marlboro: Diorio made a name for himself at quarterback by amassing 1,013 all-purpose yards and nine touchdowns, but he was also a shutdown defensive back. He made 44 tackles with eight pass deflections and three interceptions.
