J-Rod’s Week 8 Section 9 Power Rankings

  1. Cornwall (7-0): Gets a bye in the quarterfinals of the Class A playoffs, but the way Cornwall dominates divisional opponents, they might as well get a bye every week.
  2. Monroe-Woodbury (6-1): Free safety extraordinaire Tyler Toldeo with 19 tackles against run-heavy Pine Bush last week.
  3. Newburgh (5-2): The Goldbacks have had a little bit of Jekyll and Hyde in them over the last few weeks, which begs the question: Which team shows up when the lights go on in the playoffs?
  4. Marlboro (7-0): Marlboro might be printing up some #freeperugino t-shirts this week.
  5. New Paltz (6-1): New Paltz and Marlboro talked more trash before last week’s showdown, through warm-ups and into the game, than McGregor-Mayweather. Even better than McGregor-Mayweather, the New Paltz-Marlboro rematch could come to in a few weeks.
  6. Warwick (6-1): Aside from Newburgh loss, Warwick has been model of consistency this season, earning top-seed in Class AA playoffs.
  7. Pine Bush (5-2): The Bushmen seething over the fact that they are seeded fifth and have to play at fourth-seeded Minisink Valley in the Class AA playoff quarterfinals. Minisink is 2-5 and lost to Pine Bush during the regular-season. Might not seem to make sense, but that’s how the system is set up and you have to play the game.
  8. Burke Catholic (6-1): Survived Chester in a riveting Class C game last week. Let’s hope the rematch for the Class C championship in two-plus weeks is just as good.
  9. Minisink Valley (2-5): I don’t care if Minisink Valley is 2-5. Nobody wants to play the Warriors right now.
  10. Washingtonville (3-4): WR Ryan Johnson coming on of late, four catches for 100 yards last week against Minisink Valley.
