J-Rod’s Week 8 Section 9 Football Power rankings

  1. Newburgh (7-1): QB Derek Lane played one of his games in the biggest spot of the season last week against Monroe-Woodbury with Kam King stepping up for the Goldbacks, too.
  2. Cornwall (7-0): Is the favorite against Minisink Valley this week in the Class A semifinals, but QB Aidan Semo can already hear Minisink Valley DE Anton Juncaj’s footsteps coming.
  3. Marlboro (7-1): Unofficial Marlboro spokesperson Don Presutti stoked the Iron Dukes’ rivalry with Burke Catholic by taking to Twitter to take shots at the Eagles…..about five seconds after the semifinal match-up was set.
  4. Monroe-Woodbury (5-3): Another tough loss to NFA, but Crusaders hoping for a rematch in a week.
  5. Goshen (6-1): May have very well spent last week preparing for Warwick, but knows, at the very least, that New Paltz will be a tough out.
  6. Minisink Valley (5-3): Players were young, aspiring Warriors the last time Cornwall lost to a Section 9 Class A opponent (2011), but Minisink Valley won’t be intimidated.
  7. Pine Bush (4-4): Four losses this season have come to teams (Newburgh, Monroe-Woodbury, Cornwall, Whitesboro) with a combined 27-4 record.
  8. O’Neill (6-2): The back-up to start the season, QB Josh Borowicz has done a nice job as the starter, and he has plenty of talent to work with in the Raiders’ backfield.
  9. New Paltz (4-4): Upset of Warwick was highlighted by Kenny Verney’s dominance and coach Tom Tegeler’s 100th career win. Tegeler is one of the good guys and comes equipped with no BS.
  10. Warwick (5-3): Run of fourth quarter magic ended against Warwick, but still can end season on positive note with win over VC this week.
