J-Rod’s Week 7 Section 9 Power Rankings

  1. Cornwall (6-0): Will get the top seed in the Class AA playoffs. Oh wait, Cornwall plays in Class A.
  2. Monroe-Woodbury (5-1): The MVP of M-W’s win over Newburgh last week? The kicker, that’s right the kicker, Mike Boyle. He hit three field goals and deftly hit two onside kicks that the Crusaders pounced on.
  3. Newburgh (4-2): Coach Bill Bianco wasn’t Whistlin’ Dixie after Monroe-Woodbury loss, the Goldbacks’ second in three weeks. Certainly not the same team that blew Pine Bush halfway down Route 84 only a few weeks ago.
  4. New Paltz (6-0): Defending Class B champs prepping for biggest game of the year against New Paltz.
  5. Marlboro (6-0): The Iron Dukes have waited 343 days for this game: At New Paltz at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Getcha popcorn ready!
  6. Pine Bush (5-1): Pine Bush can clinch the Class AA Division I regular-season title with a win over Monroe-Woodbury and a Newburgh loss to Middletown.
  7. Warwick (5-1): More love for kickers in the rankings. Steven Mehling’s 36-yard field goal as time expired gave the Cats’ a 17-14 win over Minisink Valley last week. Not bad for a first-year kicker.
  8. Washingtonville (3-3): After averaging 9.3 points in its first three games, the Wizards have put up 33.6 in their last three, making them a dangerous outfit.
  9. Burke Catholic (5-1): Eagles averaging nearly 40 points per game under the Father of the West Coast Offense, Burke Catholic coach Aaron Hasbrouck. Big game for Burke Catholic against Chester on Friday.
  10. Valley Central (3-3): Great fourth quarter comeback attempt against Washingtonville last Saturday, but Vikings have to tighten up defense. VC has allowed 29.1 points per game this season.
