J-Rod’s Week 5 Section 9 Power Rankings

  1. Cornwall (4-0): Takes over the top spot after taking out Newburgh last week. The Green Dragons are expected to be No. 1 for a while.
  2. Newburgh (3-1): I was being sincere when I gave Newburgh sophomore Sincere Tatum a plug in my picks last week and he made me look good against Cornwall (152 rushing yards, touchdown).
  3. MonroeWoodbury (3-1): Steven Campione proving to be another talent in a long line of impressive Monroe-Woodbury quarterbacks over the years.
  4. New Paltz (4-0): Quarterback Jimmy Verney faces one of his mentors when New Paltz faces Red Hook this week. Red Hook coach Scott Ricketson was New Paltz’s offensive coordinator last year and he probably isn’t looking forward to facing the monster he helped create.
  5. Marlboro (40): Breaking news! The Iron Dukes could be without quarterback Phil DeSantis for the rest of the season as the Jets and Giants are both pushing hard for Marlboro to trade for him.
  6. Pine Bush (3-1): Nice (and important) bounce back win against Middletown last week coming off being lit up by Newburgh.
  7. Warwick (40): The Cats have been steady and impressive this year, but now comes their biggest test of the season: Newburgh. On turf. Ticked about Cornwall loss.
  8. Valley Central (22): I like this kid A.J. Williams, a junior running back. Fearless and runs hard. Hopefully, he pulls a Sincere Tatum this week.
  9. Burke Catholic (3-1): Running back David Ross has rushed for 330 yards and four touchdowns in two weeks since he began playing only on offense.
  10. Washingtonville (1-3): One of the more dangerous 1-3 teams you will find, perhaps, in the state.
