J-Rod’s Week 2 Top 10 power rankings

  1. Newburgh (1-0): Uh’Charion Hanson going Devin Hester on Section 9 again, returning a kickoff for a score against Kingston last week.
  2. Pine Bush (1-0): Pine Bush backfield is deep and Tyler Waller is another player to keep an eye on.
  3. Cornwall (1-0): RB Tyler Gayle (Sayers) went off for 195 yards and two touchdowns in season-opening win over Goshen.
  4. New Paltz (1-0): New Paltz might start charging a separate admission for the QB Jimmy Verney show.
  5. Marlboro (1-0): Most teams in Section 9 would start any one of Marlboro’s three quarterbacks, Phil DeSantis, Sam Mongelli and Christian Diorio.
  6. Valley Central (1-0): Certainly looks like it can be a player in Class AA this season
  7. Warwick (10): Watching Warwick celebrate with pure joy its first win over M-W since 1979 last week is what high school athletics are all about.
  8. Monroe-Woodbury (0-1): Dropped six spots from last week. The Crusaders will be a new look team this week and are a good bet to move back up the rankings.
  9. Port Jervis (1-0): Coming off a rough year, Port Jervis was solid in its season-opener, putting away Saugerties 36-14. Nice performance by Port and good to see.
  10. Spackenkill (1-0): Nasir Milligan, Spackenkill’s Lightning to Dhyquem Lewinson’s Thunder, with 95 rushing yards in Rondout Valley win.
